ZZS faction leader in the Saeima: There is no basis for replacing the Minister of Agriculture in connection with support for forestry workers

The leader of the ZZS faction in Latvia's Saeima stated that there is no justification for replacing the Minister of Agriculture related to support for forestry workers, highlighting that a critical evaluation from law enforcement could change perspectives.

The leader of the ZZS faction in Latvia's Saeima, Rokpelnis, asserted that the current Minister of Agriculture, Krauze, does not face any legal issues that would warrant his replacement, despite criticisms regarding his performance. He mentioned that the political landscape might shift if law enforcement agencies provided a negative assessment of the minister's actions, but as it stands, the ZZS perceives no problem within the legal framework surrounding the minister's duties.

Rokpelnis also commented on a separate resignation request concerning the Minister of Smart Administration and Regional Development, Raimonds Čudars, from the 'New Unity' party, stating that ZZS will not support the call for resignation. He acknowledged a level of agreement with some arguments being made against Čudars but emphasized the importance of self-determination for municipalities and residents. He believes that replacing Čudars would achieve little, as any successor would likely share similar political views, maintaining the status quo.

Additionally, Rokpelnis pointed out that the Saeima is set to evaluate the resignation request for Čudars on February 19, framing it as an essential decision for regional governance. Despite underlying disagreements within the government, he maintained that these should not detract from the broader objectives of enhancing municipal autonomy and the effectiveness of local governance.
