People Come to Adopt Statues Here... Know What This Trend Is and Why It Started
Milan's iconic Duomo Cathedral has launched a new initiative called 'Adopt a Statue' allowing people to sponsor the restoration of its historic sculptures.
In Milan, the Duomo Cathedral, Italy's largest cathedral and a significant historical heritage site, is home to over 3,000 historic statues created by various artists across different epochs. To preserve these unique works of art, a campaign called 'Adopt a Statue' has been initiated by the cathedral, allowing individuals to adopt and fund the restoration of specific sculptures. This initiative aims to breathe new life into centuries-old statues that are experiencing degradation. The Duomo Cathedral's construction began in 1386 and was completed in 1965. With some of its ancient sculptures deteriorating over time, efforts such as the one to restore a 15th-century statue of 'Saint with a Book' are underway as part of the 'Adopt a Statue' program. This initiative has gained attention as it not only seeks to restore the beauty of these artworks but also engages the community in the preservation of their cultural heritage. The campaign allows over 3,000 historic statues housed within the cathedral to be adopted under an agreement, contributing towards their upkeep and restoration. Participants in this program actively take part in maintaining these cultural treasures, ensuring that they remain an integral part of Milan's architectural and artistic legacy for generations to come.
