The state registry of tourist homes opens a legal battle between the Government, communities, and homeowners
The implementation of a state registry for tourist homes in Spain has led to a legal conflict involving the government, regional authorities, and property owners.
The newly established state registry for tourist homes in Spain has sparked a significant legal and political battle as the Junta de Andalucía and the Catalan Federation of Tourist Apartments have taken their complaints to the Supreme Court. This registry was introduced by the Spanish government in line with new European regulations aimed at managing short-term rentals, which have seen uncontrolled growth and contributed to the housing crisis. As of July 1, the registry requires the identification and regulation of properties being rented to tourists through platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com, alongside any other seasonal rental properties.
