LIVE BLOG ⟩ Will Ilves and Teder Achieve Their Goal of a Top Ten Finish in the Pairs Sprint?
Estonian athletes Kristjan Ilves and Ruubert Teder aim for a top ten finish in the pairs sprint event at the Milano Cortina Olympics, marking its debut in the competition.
The pairs sprint event in Nordic combined at the Milano Cortina Olympics is set to conclude with a large hill (HS142) competition featuring Estonian duo Kristjan Ilves and Ruubert Teder. Postimees covers the events live, starting with the jumping competition at 11 AM, followed by the skiing competition four hours later.
For both athletes, achieving a top ten finish is the goal, which they have expressed repeatedly. They believe this is an attainable goal given that 14 teams will be participating in the event. In this format, the points scored by each jumper are combined to determine the start interval for the cross-country skiing segment, which consists of five laps of 1.5 km each, totaling 7.5 km.
Ilves has regained his jumping form at this Olympics but has struggled slightly in the skiing aspect, finishing sixth on the normal hill and seventh on the large hill. Teder, at just 16 years old and 13 years younger than Ilves, placed 34th among 36 competitors in the normal hill event and did not participate in the skiing portion after the large hill jump, highlighting the challenges they face as a team in this new Olympic event.
