During the annual Bar and Bench meeting in Dutse, Chief Judge Justice Umar Sadiq detailed the performance of different court types, highlighting the challenges faced in resolving the backlog of cases.

The Chief Judge provided specific statistics, noting that the state high courts dealt with 917 cases, concluding 685, with 233 still pending. The magistrates’ courts saw a higher volume with 5,016 cases filed, leading to 2,014 concluded and 3,002 pending. The Shari’a Court of Appeal had a smaller caseload, with 148 cases received, but achieved a commendable resolution of 86 cases, leaving two cases pending. Additionally, lower Shari’a courts had 23,877 cases, concluding 20,044 while having 3,833 remaining unresolved.

Justice Sadiq commended the dedication of judicial officers, including judges, Kadis, magistrates, and Shari’a court officials, thanking them for their contributions to the judicial process in the state. The report highlights the ongoing challenges within the Jigawa State judiciary, particularly concerning the backlog of pending cases, which could indicate a need for resource allocation and judicial reforms to improve efficiency in the justice system.
