AVE, the contemporary art initiative that seeks to turn students and teachers into cutting-edge creators

A program by the National Autonomous University of Mexico aims to immerse students and teachers in contemporary art through a traveling initiative called AVE.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has launched a contemporary art program called AVE, which stands for Art, Linking, and Experimentation, aimed at engaging students and teachers from the National Preparatory School (ENP) in creative exploration. Coordinated by David Miranda, AVE is not just a collection of craft workshops; instead, it offers a nomadic journey into the world of contemporary art facilitated by leading artists, which empowers participants to become cutting-edge creators.

AVE’s initiative is designed to visit all nine campuses of the ENP, bringing with it a refreshing dose of creativity that goes beyond traditional academic subjects. The program seeks to inspire students who aspire for more than just tests and equations, fostering an environment where contemporary art can flourish among the youth. Launched in 2025, the program invites prominent artists to share their insights with the students, enhancing the educational experience through direct engagement with real-world art practices.

In an interview with MILENIO, Miranda emphasizes the straightforward yet powerful objective of AVE: to harness the transformative potential of art in education. By integrating contemporary artistic practices into the curriculum, the initiative not only enhances the learning experience but also develops essential creativity skills among students and teachers alike, preparing them for a future where innovative thinking is paramount.
