The Katsina State government has introduced a 15-year master plan aimed at fostering urban development in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua in response to anticipated population growth.
The Katsina State government has recently unveiled an ambitious 15-year master plan focused on the urban development of its major cities: Katsina, Daura, and Funtua. This initiative aims to address the challenges posed by an expected increase in population, projected to rise from approximately 12 million to over 21 million by the year 2040. Officials emphasize the significance of structured urban planning in curbing issues like traffic congestion, informal settlements, environmental degradation, and social strains that come with rapid urbanization.
The master plan lays out a comprehensive framework for land use, housing expansion, commercial development, transportation systems, and infrastructure provision. By prioritizing environmental protection and sustainable growth, these plans aspire to ensure that urbanization occurs in a balanced and organized manner. The government anticipates that these initiatives will not only facilitate orderly growth but will also attract investment, create job opportunities, and enhance living conditions for citizens.
Governor Dikko expressed his administration's commitment to ensuring that these master plans are effectively implemented for the benefit of the residents. The initiative signifies a proactive approach to urban development in Katsina State, reflecting a broader recognition of the need for sustainable and strategically planned urban centres in light of future demographic changes.
