ASF and Sedena sign inter-institutional collaboration agreement to strengthen oversight

The Auditor General of the Federation and the Secretary of National Defense in Mexico have signed an agreement to enhance inter-institutional coordination and improve public spending oversight.

In a move aimed at bolstering public finance accountability, the Auditor General of the Federation, David Colmenares PΓ‘ramo, and the Secretary of National Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, have updated a collaboration agreement by signing Action Lines focused on Superior Oversight. This agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation between institutions and promote timely information exchange concerning public expenditure oversight efforts. By emphasizing preventiveness, the agreement aims to enhance overall transparency in public financial management in Mexico.

To facilitate this, both institutions have committed to the establishment of working groups which will ensure continuity in institutional communication channels. These groups will play a pivotal role in expediting the sharing of information related to oversight processes throughout various stages, from planning and development to result report integration and follow-up for the fiscal period spanning from January 1 to December 31, 2026. This structured approach is designed to foster a more collaborative environment for public expenditure reviews.

The collaboration reflects a broader trend within Mexican governance, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in managing public resources. As the government takes steps to improve oversight mechanisms, citizens can expect a more rigorous examination of how public funds are allocated and spent. This not only promotes greater faith in public institutions but also aligns with global standards of good governance, where inter-agency collaboration is increasingly recognized as vital for effective oversight and accountability.
