Mozambique: Sentenced to 10 Years Imprisonment

In a significant ruling, Alexandre Njovo, who previously served as the Presiding Judge of the Maxixe City Court in Inhambane, Mozambique, has received a ten-year prison sentence due to his involvement in the embezzlement of state funds amounting to 3.2 million meticais (approximately 50,000 US dollars). The decision was pronounced by the Third Section of the Inhambane Provincial Law Court, underscoring the authorities' commitment to tackling corruption within the judiciary. Alongside his sentence, Njovo is also required to pay a fine equivalent to a year’s earnings and must reimburse the state an estimated three million meticais.
