Elders of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State condemned an attack on the party's secretariat by suspected political thugs during a pre-congress meeting.

Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have expressed their condemnation of an attack on the party’s secretariat in Akure, where suspected political thugs disrupted a pre-ward congress meeting. During the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, the attackers assaulted party members, including the state chairman Mr. Ade Adetimehin, leaving several injured. This violent interruption raised serious concerns among party officials about the safety of political gatherings ahead of the upcoming general elections. The attack was widely condemned by the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, which underscored the importance of upholding democratic principles and maintaining discipline within the party. Pa Erastus Akeju, the chairman of the forum, highlighted the potential escalation of violence as elections approach and urged party leaders to address the situation proactively to prevent further incidents. The elders stated that such violence is counterproductive to the objectives of democracy and warned against any form of intimidation or aggression. In his remarks, Akeju noted that around 15 elders present at the meeting sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. These events not only represent a concerning trend of political violence but also pose a threat to the democratic process and the integrity of upcoming elections in Ondo State, prompting calls for increased security measures and greater accountability among political actors to ensure a peaceful electoral environment.
