Holcim Mexico reduced 2.3 million tons of equivalent carbon dioxide

Holcim Mexico announced a potential reduction of 2.3 million tons of CO2 equivalent by 2025 through the use of low-carbon cement and concrete products.

Holcim Mexico has revealed its ambitious plan to reduce potential carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 2.3 million tons by the year 2025. This reduction, as explained by Alicia Carrillo, the company's Sustainability Coordinator, is equivalent to the emissions from approximately 3.6 million commercial airplane trips or the electricity consumption of 480,000 homes. Holcim’s strategy aims to make significant impacts in sustainability within the construction sector by focusing on low-carbon product lines.

The company is concentrating on two primary product lines - Ecoplanet, which represents their low-carbon cement, and ECOPact, a low-carbon concrete. Both lines are designed to achieve at least a 30% reduction in carbon emissions compared to standard cement as a baseline. Carrillo elaborated on the multifaceted strategies being implemented by Holcim to reach these goals, which involve in-depth changes at every stage of production, from operation practices to the final product.

A crucial element of Holcim's sustainability plan is enhancing the Rate of Substitution, which refers to using alternative materials in production processes. The commitment to sustainability within the construction industry reflects a growing recognition of environmental responsibilities among corporations, aiming not only to comply with regulatory standards but to lead the market towards greener practices, ultimately contributing to global efforts against climate change.
