A driver was arrested for drunk driving after using a broomstick to operate the clutch of his car while having a prosthetic leg.
On the morning of Wednesday, the 18th, a driver was arrested by the Brazilian Federal Highway Police (PRF) during a traffic stop for driving under the influence. The individual, who has a prosthetic leg, was found operating the clutch of his Chevrolet Vectra with a broomstick, which raised concerns for the safety of others on the road. The vehicle was spotted swerving and traveling at low speed along BR-262 in Marechal Floriano, located in the mountainous region of Espírito Santo.
The PRF officers, during their patrol, noticed the erratic driving behavior and subsequently stopped the vehicle. Upon approaching the driver, the officers observed clear signs of intoxication, such as red eyes, slurred speech, difficulty maintaining balance, and the smell of alcohol. Additionally, the driver did not have his personal documentation and admitted to consuming alcohol shortly before driving, which ultimately led to his arrest for the offense.
This incident highlights both the dangers of impaired driving and the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. The use of unconventional methods to operate a vehicle, such as the broomstick in this case, underscores the need for increased awareness and support for drivers with disabilities to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
