Sergipe registers two drownings during Carnival

Two young men lost their lives due to drowning in Canindé de São Francisco, Sergipe, during the Carnival period as confirmed by the Fire Brigade.

During Carnival festivities, Sergipe reported two fatalities due to drowning in Canindé de São Francisco, confirmed on Wednesday by the local Fire Brigade. The deceased, aged 19 and 21, were swimming in an area marked as hazardous by the authorities, highlighting the need for vigilance in such designated swimming zones.

The Fire Brigade's communications officer, Diogo Acrux, stated that the incident occurred despite warnings, as the area was properly signaled to inform swimmers of potential risks. This tragic event underscores not only the dangers associated with swimming in unmonitored locations but also the responsibility of both local authorities to ensure safety and of the public to heed warnings.

In addition to the drownings, throughout the Carnival period, the Fire Brigade recorded a total of 95 incidents, ranging from rescues to pre-hospital medical assistance, and encounters with marine animals. This figure is slightly lower than the 98 incidents reported during the same period last year, indicating a relative consistency in the safety challenges faced during this festive season in Sergipe.
