The trial of Christos Mavrikis for gunfire has been postponed

Christos Mavrikis's trial for illegal possession of a firearm and related charges has been postponed until April 23, 2026, to allow a key witness to testify.

Christos Mavrikis, who is facing multiple charges including illegal possession of a firearm and careless shooting, will now have his trial on April 23, 2026. The postponement was granted so that a witness, who is alleged to have had a dispute with Mavrikis prior to the shooting, can appear in court. The charges against Mavrikis stem from an incident where he allegedly fired two shots into the air in his neighborhood in Spata, Greece.

The altercation allegedly involved Mavrikis and a man of Albanian descent, following which Mavrikis barricaded himself in his home. The police, known as ELAS in Greece, later found him in a field approximately 100 meters from his house. Since May 2025, Mavrikis has been under house arrest with an electronic bracelet as a condition set after his previous indictment for attempting to bribe a Supreme Court judge.

This case highlights issues surrounding gun laws and public safety in Greece, raising concerns among residents about the accessibility of firearms and the implications of such incidents on community safety. The involvement of legal matters related to Mavrikis's previous charges adds another layer of complexity to his current situation and reflects a tense legal environment in the country regarding the management of criminal behavior and legal accountability.
