'40 Days for Life': Lenten campaign for the unborn begins today
The '40 Days for Life' pro-life Lenten campaign in Croatia starts today and aims to raise awareness of the consequences of abortion.
The '40 Days for Life' initiative, which advocates for pro-life sentiments, kicks off on Ash Wednesday, February 18, and will run until Palm Sunday, March 29. Originating as an international prayer campaign, it has been active in Croatia since 2014, mobilizing communities nationwide. This year's campaign, involving participation from 40 cities across the country, emphasizes the serious consequences of deliberate abortion, drawing on the biblical verse, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death" (Proverbs 16:25). The patron saint of the campaign is Blessed Alojzije Stepinac.
Throughout the campaign, the initiative plans to share daily testimonies on social media from mothers, fathers, children, and families affected by the adverse effects of abortion. This effort is aimed at shedding light on the emotional and psychological trauma that such decisions can inflict on individuals and families, striving to build a supportive community around those impacted by these experiences. The campaign focuses not only on the unborn but also underscores the necessity for compassion and understanding for those faced with difficult choices.
The organizers highlight that abortion represents a profound crisis both globally and in Croatia, affecting not only women but also men and families, ultimately undermining societal bonds and dehumanizing the most innocent among us. This campaign seeks to foster a dialogue around these critical issues and encourage individuals and communities to provide support for life-affirming choices, hoping to inspire a change in public perception and promote a culture that respects all life.
