The new license plates have started to arrive in CABA with capped increases
New automotive license plate bills in Buenos Aires now reflect a capped increase of 31.8% following controversial hikes over 100%.
Buenos Aires residents can now access recalculated bills for the Automotive License Tax after a recent public backlash over steep increases of over 100%. The city government, led by Jorge Macri, responded to this growing discontent by imposing a cap on further increases tied to the city's Cost Index (IPCBA). This decision aims to alleviate financial pressure on residents affected by the previous hikes.
The Administration of Public Revenue (AGIP) has announced that the new bills, reflecting a maximum increase of 31.8%, consistent with the IPCBA for this year, are now available. Furthermore, a unified deadline for the first installment and anticipatory annual payment has been established for February 27. To facilitate payments through home banking, residents will be able to see these new bills starting from the 20th of this month.
This move by the city government is significant as it attempts to balance the need for revenue with the concerns of its constituents. With jumps in property-related taxes causing dissatisfaction, this capped increase illustrates an effort to address economic strain while still meeting budgetary needs. The situation highlights the delicate nature of tax policy amidst inflationary pressures in Argentina and the responsiveness of local government to public sentiment regarding tax burdens.
