Seized 27.5 kilograms of cocaine at Svinesund

Norwegian customs seized 27.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a Romanian trailer at the Svinesund border crossing on December 12.

On December 12, Norwegian customs officials made a significant drug seizure at the Svinesund toll station, where a Romanian trailer was subjected to an inspection that uncovered 27.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed within the vehicle. The operation was a part of ongoing efforts to identify vehicles that merit careful inspection, and the successful detection in this case highlights the efficiency of their methods, as explained by section leader Per Kristian Grandahl of the customs agency in a press release.

During the scanning process, customs operators detected irregularities in the side wall and above the windshield of the truck, leading to the discovery of 24 identical plastic-wrapped packages of cocaine hidden in the side compartment of the tractor. The quick-response drug test yielded a positive result for cocaine, prompting immediate freezing of the operation and notification of the police and crime technicians to proceed with the investigation.

Grandahl noted that the quantity of drugs and the sophisticated methods used for concealment suggest the involvement of a professional criminal network with substantial financial resources. The Romanian driver was arrested on the site, and the case, along with the seized drugs, was handed over to the police for further investigation, highlighting the ongoing challenges of drug trafficking in Norway's border areas.
