Network trafficked more than 43,722 pills – One arrest
A criminal network involved in thefts and illegal drug trafficking in Athens has been dismantled following a police operation, leading to one arrest.
A recent police operation in areas of Athens led to the dismantling of a criminal network that reportedly trafficked over 43,722 pharmaceutical pills and was involved in various thefts. The operation took place on the morning of February 17, as authorities acted on intelligence regarding the group's illegal activities. One member of the network was arrested, and two other identified members remain at large, prompting further investigations into their whereabouts and operations.
The investigation revealed that the network had been active since at least September 2025, engaging in thefts from vehicles and homes across different residential areas of Athens. Six cases of theft from cars and homes, along with 36 instances of document thefts believed to have occurred abroad, were solved through this operation. The authorities have indicated that these criminal actions were significant and part of a broader issue related to drug trafficking within the region.
Additionally, it has been uncovered that the network utilized systematic shipping methods to distribute the pharmaceutical pills to recipients located in another European country, indicating a larger scale of illegal drug distribution that crosses borders. The financial gain from these activities is under investigation, as it poses serious risks not only to public health but also highlights the ongoing challenges that law enforcement faces in combatting organized crime related to drug trafficking and theft in urban settings.
