Zelensky on Geneva Talks: There Was No Progress on Key Issues, Russia is Trying to Stall the Negotiations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine and Russia have made no significant progress in key issues to end the four-year war during recent talks in Geneva.

During a press conference, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed disappointment over the recent Geneva negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Despite intensive discussions, the two countries failed to reach an agreement on critical issues impacting the ongoing four-year conflict. Zelensky particularly highlighted the unresolved status of occupied territories in eastern Ukraine and the future of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which remains under Russian control, as highly sensitive topics that hindered the peace process.

Zelensky emphasized that these key matters remain contentious, indicating that Russia's negotiation strategy may be more about stalling than seeking a genuine resolution. This absence of consensus raises concerns about the future of diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, as both sides seem entrenched in their positions, prolonging the suffering of affected civilians and the instability in the region.

In addition to the talks, Zelensky's government imposed sanctions on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for his support of Russiaโ€™s military actions in Ukraine. This move further complicates the regional dynamics and illustrates Ukraine's commitment to countering Russian aggression while navigating the delicate balance of international relations in a tense geopolitical landscape.
