Zelensky: Certain progress made on military issues in Geneva, but not on political ones

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that while progress has been made on military matters in recent talks in Geneva, no advancement has occurred on political issues.

Following the third round of trilateral discussions between Ukraine, the USA, and Russia held in Geneva, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that there has been certain progress on military issues. The talks involved thematic groups, one focusing on political matters and the other on military matters. Zelensky noted that the military discussions were constructive; however, political issues remain unresolved, reflecting persistent disagreements between the parties involved.

During the military focus discussions, technical aspects of a ceasefire were agreed upon. Nevertheless, the implementation of these technical agreements hinges on political decisions yet to be finalized by the parties. Zelensky emphasized that the United States would certainly play a role in monitoring the compliance with the ceasefire regime. This involvement highlights the ongoing interest and influence of the USA in matters concerning the Ukraine conflict.

Despite the advancements in military dialogue, serious political issues linger, including the fates of the Donbas region and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The lack of progress on the political front may impede the potential for a long-term resolution to the conflict, indicating that further negotiations will be essential to address the unresolved political complexities.
