Polish energy company plans to raise gas supplies to Ukraine by 40% in 2026
Poland's Orlen plans to increase natural gas deliveries to Ukraine by 40%, reaching over 1 billion cubic metres by 2026, amid rising demand.
Poland's state-owned energy company, Orlen, has announced a significant increase in its natural gas supplies to Ukraine, with plans to boost deliveries by 40% in 2026. The company aims to provide more than 1 billion cubic metres of natural gas, up from approximately 0.7 billion cubic metres expected in 2025. This increase comes as demand for gas in Ukraine rises, especially following recent challenges in domestic production due to Russian attacks.
The deliveries will be managed through commercial contracts primarily with Naftogaz, Ukraine's leading national oil and gas company. This collaboration is crucial, particularly as part of last year's agreements to enhance energy security in Ukraine, which has been under pressure due to geopolitical tensions and the impact on energy infrastructure from conflict. The deal also includes a commitment to supply 300 million cubic metres of US liquefied natural gas to Ukraine in the first quarter of 2026.
This planned increase in gas supplies reflects Poland's ongoing support for Ukraine's energy needs and highlights the importance of international partnerships in addressing energy security. As Ukraine continues to recover and rebuild, the access to reliable gas supplies from neighboring Poland is a critical step in stabilizing the nation's energy landscape and reducing its reliance on alternative sources amid a challenging geopolitical climate.
