Family used coffee plants to hide marijuana plantation in MG; husband and father-in-law remain fugitives
A family in Fervedouro, Brazil, attempted to disguise a marijuana plantation among coffee plants, with two members currently on the run from law enforcement.
In a rural area of Fervedouro, Minas Gerais, police uncovered a hidden marijuana plantation that was cleverly camouflaged among coffee plants. Discovered on the 13th of this month, the plantation occupies about 1,000 square meters and contained around 500 cannabis plants, which the police proceeded to destroy. Authorities estimate that the cultivation could yield approximately one ton of marijuana over the course of a year.
At the time of the discovery, a 23-year-old woman was arrested, while her 27-year-old husband and 61-year-old father-in-law fled into the forest upon the arrival of the police and have not yet been apprehended. The family is believed to be the landowners of the property, which is situated about 100 meters from their residential home at Córrego Ribeirão do Jorge. Their evasion has raised further concerns about the operations being conducted in that rural area.
