K. Kyranakis: Starting today the tram reaches the Port of Piraeus - The new terminal stop "Akta Posidon" is in operation
The new terminal tram stop 'Akta Posidon' in Piraeus is now operational, enhancing tram service to the port.
The newly operational terminal stop 'Akta Posidon' officially connects the tram Line 7 with the Port of Piraeus, resolving a long-standing issue that had hampered public transportation. K. Kyranakis, the Deputy Minister of Transport, highlighted that what was a ready but neglected tram stop due to miscommunication among public services has finally opened. The stop had previously become a site of degradation and social issues, rather than serving the citizens commuting to and from the port.
With the new tram stop now functioning, thousands of passengers will benefit from convenient access to the port, eliminating the inconvenience of carrying luggage through the streets of Piraeus. The Deputy Minister noted that this development will vastly improve the travel experience for visitors and locals alike, providing a more reliable and direct link to one of Greece's key maritime hubs.
This project, not without its challenges, was primarily delayed due to technical factors rather than administrative ones, particularly the need to reconcile the overhead wiring of the trolleybus network with the tram's route. The successful activation of this terminal marks a significant step in enhancing public transportation infrastructure in this busy area.
