Accident Leaves Two Injured on Mogi-Bertioga; Driver Refuses Breathalyzer
A car accident on the Mogi-Bertioga road in Brazil has left two individuals slightly injured, while one driver refused a breathalyzer test.
A collision involving two cars occurred on the Dom Paulo Rolim Loureiro Highway (SP-098), also known as the Mogi-Bertioga road, near Biritiba-Mirim. The accident took place around 8 PM on Tuesday, October 17, resulting in two individuals suffering minor injuries. According to the Military Highway Police, the vehicles collided head-on at kilometer 71.5, heading towards Mogi das Cruzes. When requested, one driver refused to undergo a breathalyzer test and was subsequently cited by the authorities.
The two injured individuals were transported to the Santa Casa Hospital in Mogi das Cruzes, while the damaged vehicles were removed from the highway by tow trucks. Reports from the Novo Litoral Concessionaire (CNL), responsible for managing the highway, indicated that lanes one and two were temporarily closed for the incident response, leading to a reversible lane operation in that stretch. The road was cleared and reopened to traffic by 8:40 PM the same evening.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the implications of driving under the influence, especially given the driver's refusal to take the breathalyzer test. Authorities emphasize the importance of compliance with road safety regulations to prevent such accidents, which often disrupt traffic flow and result in injuries.
