Ash Wednesday, celebrated on March 18, marks the start of Lent for the Catholic Church. This period is characterized by reflection, conversion, penitence, and fasting, in preparation for Easter, which will be celebrated on April 5. The Archdiocese of Belém has announced a schedule of masses on this day, where the ritual of the imposition of ashes will take place.

In all parishes within the Archdiocese of Belém, masses will be held, presided over by parish priests and vicar. Each church will follow its specific program for the celebrations, which will feature the imposition of ashes as a core element. Special masses are planned at prominent locations, including the Metropolitan Cathedral in Downtown Belém and other community churches such as Nossa Senhora de Nazaré on Ilha Grande.

Religious leaders from the Archdiocese will preside over major celebrations, signifying the importance of this day within the community. Notably, Dom Julio Endi Akamine, the archbishop of Belém, will oversee the mass at 7 PM at the Cathedral, while other bishops will lead additional services throughout the day to ensure the faithful can participate in this significant start to the Lenten season.
