Towards the implementation of the breast centers network plan

Greece has officially begun establishing a network of breast care centers to improve treatment for women with breast cancer, supported by the Ministry of Health.

The official launch of the establishment and operation of the Breast Centers Network was marked by the first meeting for implementing the "Development of an Integrated Health Care System for Breast Cancer" project, which took place on February 16, 2026, and is funded by the Ministry of Health. This significant reform initiative aims to upgrade breast cancer care for women in Greece significantly.

Representatives from several hospitals forming the core of the network, including GAONA "Saint Savvas", GANP "Metaxa", ANTH "Theagenio", GNA "Alexandra", GNMA "Elena Venizelou", and GONK "The Holy Anargyroi", participated in the meeting. These hospitals are set to play a pivotal role in developing and implementing quality standards and the certification process for the Breast Centers.

In the coming months, the addition of GNA "Hippokrates" is expected, which will further enhance the geographical coverage and functional adequacy of the network. This initiative reflects Greece's commitment to improving medical care and support for women battling breast cancer, emphasizing the importance of coordinated healthcare services in managing this critical health issue.
