Artist Antoni Miralda discusses his latest project celebrating 40 years of the Honeymoon Project, which highlights the fantastical wedding between the statues of Liberty and Columbus.
Antoni Miralda, a notable artist from Terrassa, is currently celebrating 40 years of his ambitious Honeymoon Project. This celebration is marked by the release of a collection of five books titled Honeymoon Updates, which aims to delve into the whimsical and utopian narrative surrounding the marriage of the Statue of Liberty and Christopher Columbus's statue. The first book in the series, Monuments in Love / Cartas de Amor, was recently launched at a festive event in Barcelona, demonstrating Miralda's continued relevance and creative prowess even at the age of 84.
The Honeymoon Project, which spanned from 1986 to 1992, was characterized by a series of unique and artistic events that culminated in a symbolic wedding held in Las Vegas in 1992. This project not only highlights Miralda's artistic vision but also serves as a commentary on the intersection of cultural icons and the narratives they represent. The upcoming showcase at the Arco Madrid fair, organized in collaboration with Carles Senda, will further explore pieces from this enchanting story, including the Eternity Ring.
Miralda's reflections on the United States reveal a complex relationship; he celebrates its beauty while acknowledging the societal and political turmoil it experiences. His work often emphasizes the importance of dreams and love, echoing the utopian ideals presented in the Honeymoon Project, which invites audiences to reconsider the narratives surrounding American identity and its various symbols.
