Vehicle restriction returns to São Paulo starting this Thursday (19)
Vehicle restrictions in São Paulo will be reinstated starting Thursday, after being suspended for the Carnival.
Starting Thursday, vehicle restrictions in São Paulo will be back in effect, following the Carnival pause on this measure which was lifted by the city management led by Ricardo Nunes. The restrictions, known as car 'rodízio', are designed to control traffic in the expanded center of the city during peak hours, specifically from Monday to Friday between 7 AM to 10 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM.
The rodízio rules are based on the last digit of the vehicle's license plate, with specific days assigned to different numbers. For instance, vehicles with plates ending in 1 and 2 are restricted on Mondays, 3 and 4 on Tuesdays, and so forth, culminating with numbers 9 and 0 on Fridays. This system is aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and improving air quality in the bustling metropolis.
Additionally, motorists planning to leave the city are advised to avoid peak traffic times on Wednesday to ensure smoother travel. The article outlines the worst traffic times on major roads leading out of São Paulo, such as the Anhanguera-Bandeirantes and Castello-Raposo roads, emphasizing the city’s ongoing challenges with traffic management even with the return of the rodízio.
