The Lithuanian Ministry of Finance is seeking a new leader for the State Tax Inspectorate, emphasizing the need for strong leadership to combat the shadow economy.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Finance has announced an open call for applications for the position of head of the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI), with a deadline set for March 4. Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitiekūnas underscored the importance of appointing a strong leader capable of addressing key financial challenges faced by the country, particularly in fighting against the shadow economy.
In his statement, Vaitiekūnas mentioned that the new director will be expected to strategically reduce the tax gap and enhance efforts against the shadow economy while continuing to modernize the activities of the VMI through data-driven approaches and digital solutions. This role is regarded as one that requires responsible leadership, aligning with the government's goals of a more transparent and efficient tax administration.
Currently, the VMI is led by Edita Janušienė, and the new head will be appointed for a five-year term. The State Tax Inspectorate is a governmental body owned by the state, playing a crucial role in enforcing tax laws and regulations, making this leadership change significant for Lithuania's financial governance.
