The Neris Riverbank has become a beloved spot for Vilnius residents, prompting city officials to undertake maintenance efforts along popular walking and cycling paths. These improvements include the removal of fallen trees and invasive species while ensuring the natural habitat remains intact for local wildlife. Gintautas Runovičius, head of the City Environment Department of Vilnius, emphasizes the balance between human safety and environmental conservation during these efforts.

The maintenance work is currently focused on a section from Verkių Street to the Valakupiai Bridge, with plans to extend to the Žirmūnai area along walking and biking trails. As part of the initiative, dead and dried trees are being removed, and pathways leading to the river are being opened and organized. Most of the shrubs, particularly those providing berries essential for birds, will remain untouched, ensuring that the ecosystem's functionality is preserved even with the removal of some invasive species.

These efforts are expected to improve the overall aesthetic and accessibility of the Neris Riverbank, making it a more enjoyable place for both exploration and relaxation.
