Tallink Silja starts negotiations for employee reductions

Tallink Silja is initiating employee negotiations that may lead to layoffs affecting 26 workers in Finland, with discussions expected to last three weeks.

Tallink Silja, a Finnish shipping company owned by the Estonian AS Tallink Grupp, has announced the commencement of negotiations with employees, set to begin on February 25. The discussions, which will last for three weeks, concern a total of 26 employees, with the potential for up to 10 layoffs due to production and economic reasons. Communication Director Marika Nöjd emphasized that while layoffs are anticipated, the final results may yield a smaller number depending on different arrangements that could be made.

The negotiations include employees from Tallink Silja's locations in Helsinki and Ã…land, with 15 workers based in the Helsinki office and 11 in Ã…land. The company, which has around 900 employees in Finland, plays a significant role in the region's employment landscape and is a part of a larger group that employs roughly 5,000 individuals across Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Latvia, and Germany. Given the economic challenges facing the company, initiated layoffs could affect the local labor market.

As the situation unfolds, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the negotiation outcomes impact employees and the company's operational capabilities going forward. The results of the negotiations are expected to be confirmed in March, providing clarity for those affected and for the broader economy.
