'Bua Pranam' said the young man before taking away the earrings..., trickster fooled and robbed an elder woman

A young man tricked an elderly woman in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, into giving away her gold earrings under false pretenses, leading to his arrest by the police.

In Jhansi's Sipri Bazaar area of Uttar Pradesh, an elderly woman was deceived by a young man who posed as a relative. The incident occurred when the woman, identified as Runiya Devi, was outside her house for some chores. The perpetrator, riding a motorcycle without a number plate, approached her, greeted her with 'Bua pranam' (a respectful greeting), and claimed he wanted her to meet his mother who was supposedly waiting nearby. Caught off-guard by his cordiality and respect, Runiya was momentarily flattered and confused.

As they engaged in conversation, the young man complimented her gold earrings and claimed he wanted to make similar earrings for his mother. He persuaded her to remove her earrings for him to inspect, under the pretext of showing her a sample. In a clever ploy, he also took away her necklace, suggesting it would help him understand what she desired. Once he had gained her trust with flattery, he then took off on his motorcycle with her valuables, leaving her bewildered and without recourse.

Fortunately, local police were alerted to the incident and were able to utilize CCTV footage along with forensic evidence to track down the thief. The police successfully recovered one of the stolen earrings, along with the motorcycle used in the crime. After his capture, the suspect has been presented in court and subsequently remanded to jail, highlighting a proactive response by local law enforcement in dealing with such deceptive crimes.
