A 70-year-old woman was conned out of gold jewelry worth ₹60,000 after being deceived by a young man posing as a relative in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
In a shocking incident in the Sipri Bazaar area of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, a 70-year-old woman named Runiya Devi fell victim to a jewelry theft orchestrated by an unknown young man. The perpetrator approached her while she was going outside to throw garbage and greeted her with a traditional gesture of touching her feet, calling her 'Bua' (aunt). This false display of affection threw her off guard as he claimed that his mother was nearby and wanted to meet her.
While engaging the elderly woman in conversation, the young man complimented her gold earrings and suggested that he wanted to get similar ones made for his mother. Under the pretense of showing her a specific earring, he deceitfully sniffed something that caused her to lose her senses. Taking advantage of her compromised state, he removed her gold earrings and necklace worth approximately ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 and managed to make off with the stolen items.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, providing crucial evidence for the authorities to investigate this case of deception and theft. The local police have been alerted, and they are reviewing the footage to identify the suspect, as such incidents raise alarm about the safety of elderly citizens in the region, highlighting a growing concern regarding scams targeting vulnerable individuals.
