Here the pedophiles connect on Zoom
An investigation by Swedish police reveals a Zoom network where pedophiles gather to view and share child abuse content.
For over a year, the investigative team of 'Uppdrag granskning' has been tracking a group of police in Stockholm dedicated to investigating online sexual crimes against children. One significant case involves a Swedish man, referred to as Helix, who hosted sex parties in Stockholm attended by men from various parts of Sweden to engage in sexual activities, use drugs, and watch explicit child abuse videos together. The police investigator Jonas Gรถthner of the Internet-related Sexual Offenses against Children unit notes that while they are accustomed to offenders engaging anonymously online, this group has taken their activities offline by meeting physically and openly referring to themselves as 'peddos' and 'pervs.'
Moreover, during their investigation, the police uncovered encrypted hard drives belonging to Helix, which contained hundreds of screen recordings from Zoom meetings where pedophiles from different countries connected to watch abusive films collectively. According to police estimates, there are about 330 participants from around the world involved in this horrifying network. This underscores not just the extent of online exploitation but also the challenges authorities face in policing such international digital interactions.
The feature series 'Jakten' on SVT Play delves deeper into these investigative challenges, shedding light on the efforts taken by law enforcement to tackle these crimes and the cooperation issues experienced in handling such cross-border cases. With the increase in online child sexual abuse, the collaboration and communication between international police forces become critically essential in combating these heinous activities effectively.
