Peak performance of 5G SA - very few users
Greece shows high performance in the development of 5G Standalone (5G SA) technology, but its user adoption remains low.
Greece is currently experiencing remarkable success in the development of its 5G Standalone (5G SA) networks, primarily attributed to substantial investments made by the telecommunications company OTE. According to a recent international report by Ookla and Omdia, Italy achieves an average download speed of 489 Mbps on its 5G SA networks, positioning it among the global leaders and ahead of major European markets such as Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. This high-speed capability underscores the effective deployment and technological advancement of 5G infrastructure in the country.
However, despite these impressive performance metrics, the actual adoption and usage of the 5G SA network in Greece appear to be lagging significantly. The report indicates that there is a stark contrast between the technical capabilities of the new network and the number of users currently utilizing it. In comparison, the average speed on Non Standalone 5G networks in Greece is considerably lower at 162 Mbps, yet this type of network might be more accessible for users who have yet to migrate to the newer standalone technology.
This disparity raises important questions regarding market adoption and user awareness of 5G SA technologies. As Greece advances in its telecommunications capabilities, the challenge remains to promote and encourage greater user engagement with 5G SA services. Addressing this gap will be vital for maximizing the benefits of the investments made and ensuring that Greece remains competitive in the global telecommunications landscape.
