Mocidade Alegre won its 13th title at the São Paulo Carnival with a performance celebrating actress Léa Garcia and her African ancestry.

Mocidade Alegre triumphed at the São Paulo Carnival with a score of 269.8 points, marking their 13th title and solidifying their status as the second most victorious samba school in the city, only behind Vai-Vai. The performance featured striking elements such as Iemanjá's swimming pool and a captivating front commission, which impressed the audience at the Sambódromo do Anhembi.

The theme of Mocidade Alegre this year was "Malunga Léa – Rapsódia de uma Deusa Negra," which honored the legacy of Léa Garcia, a significant figure in Brazilian artistry and representation. Léa Garcia, a groundbreaking actress, stood out for her contributions to the representation of Black individuals in Brazilian theater and cinema, showcasing her connection to African ancestry throughout her career. Her association with the Teatro Experimental do Negro helped pave the way for Black artists in Brazilian drama.

The front commission's opening performance evoked applause as it portrayed the early days of Léa Garcia's career with the Teatro Experimental do Negro, founded by Abdias do Nascimento. Notably, Thelma Assis, a medical doctor and the champion of Big Brother Brazil, also contributed to the occasion, emphasizing the ongoing significance of representation in Brazilian culture, especially through the arts and media.
