The Mexican Chamber of Deputies has taken a significant step in addressing issues around digital privacy and consent by approving a measure to sanction the creation of intimate sexual content using artificial intelligence. With a unanimous vote of 442 in favor, the proposed addition to the General Law of Access of Women to a Life Free of Violence will penalize the generation and distribution of AI-generated images, videos, or audios that either simulate sexual acts or present pornographic representations of individuals without their explicit consent, approval, or authorization.

Deputy Annia Sarahí Gómez from the PAN emphasized the importance of responsible use of generative AI technologies, noting their potential for educational, medical, and creative advancements. However, she cautioned against their misuse for creating false imagery intended to humiliate, extort, or damage reputations, firmly stating that such uses undermine the innovative potential of these technologies. The measure reflects a growing recognition of the dangers posed by unregulated technological advancements in the realm of digital content creation and the paramount importance of safeguarding women's rights to privacy and dignity.
