Takeda Castle, known as the 'Castle in the Sky,' photographed from above with a drone during winter closure

A drone captured stunning aerial images of Takeda Castle amidst a snowy landscape during its winter closure.

Takeda Castle, a national historic site located in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture, is known as the 'Castle in the Sky.' It is currently closed from January 4 until the end of February due to the potential dangers posed by freezing and accumulated snow. During this period, a local tourism bureau utilized a drone to capture aerial footage of the castle ruins blanketed in snow. On February 12, as the winter weather plateau eased, the fog lifted and revealed the majestic site at approximately 353 meters.

This innovative approach allowed for capturing the unique scenery of Takeda Castle, which remained snow-covered even after heavy snowfall earlier in February. The drone footage showcased the beautiful contrast of the ancient castle ruins against the snowy urban landscape below. While the site is closed for regular visits due to safety concerns, there are special tour events offered by the Asago Tourism Bureau to visit the castle ruins with a registered guide until the closure ends.

These tours are aimed at tourists and residents eager to experience the winter scenery, with a fee structure that allows for up to two people for 12,000 yen, and an additional 1,000 yen for each extra person (children under junior high school age can participate for free). The opening event for the castle is scheduled for March 1, with entry times and fees laid out for public access once it reopens, allowing enthusiasts to appreciate both the historical significance and breathtaking views of the castle again.
