On the morning of Tuesday, October 17, a serious frontal collision occurred on BR-101 at km 171 in Macaé, Brazil, involving two passenger vehicles. As reported, six people sustained injuries from the collision, which was severe enough to leave one vehicle entirely wrecked. The site of the accident is noted to be in the direction of Espírito Santo, leading to significant concern about road safety on this busy highway.
Emergency services, including firefighters from Macaé and support from Conceição de Macabu, were alerted around 8:40 AM. However, they arrived at the scene to find that the victims were already receiving assistance from the Autopista Fluminense, the highway concessionaire responsible for the area. The quick response by this organization highlights the ongoing challenges faced by emergency services on busy roadways and the importance of immediate medical attention in such incidents.
Of the six injured, four experienced moderate injuries while the others had minor ones. One moderately injured victim was transported to Ferreira Machado Hospital in Campos dos Goytacazes, while the remaining five were taken to the Public Hospital of Macaé (HPM).
