Man dies shot during fight between batters in Rio

A 48-year-old man was killed while trying to mediate a fight between batter groups in Rio de Janeiro.

Fábio Pereira Rangel, 48, tragically lost his life while attempting to intervene in a conflict between groups of batterers in Rocha Miranda, located in the Northern Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The incident occurred on Saturday, and he was with his four-year-old son at the time when he was shot. Despite being rushed to the Getúlio Vargas Hospital in Penha, Rangel later succumbed to his injuries, with the official declaration of his death occurring on Monday, two days later.

Law enforcement personnel have formally registered the case at the 22nd Police District in Penha, which has since transferred the investigation to the 40th Police District, known as Honorário Gurgel. Ongoing efforts are in place to determine all the circumstances surrounding this incident. Following the confrontation, several individuals were detained en route to the Complexo da Penha in a police operation on Tuesday, indicating an active response from authorities to curb violence related to these batterer groups.
