Leena heard a threatening rumble during a train journey - a glance out the window revealed a frightening sight

A Finnish woman narrowly escaped a potentially deadly avalanche while traveling by train in Switzerland.

Leena Marttila, a 70-year-old woman from Finland, experienced a terrifying incident while traveling on a train to Zermatt, a picturesque alpine village in Switzerland. During her journey, she began to hear a threatening rumble, which she quickly associated with an impending avalanche. Looking out the window of the train, her fears were confirmed as she observed a massive avalanche rushing toward the train.

The avalanche appeared to grow larger as it approached, carrying trees and debris along with it. Despite the chilling proximity of the avalanche, the train continued to travel forward on its tracks. Marttila recalled feeling a profound fear that the avalanche would crash directly onto their train, a situation that could have had dire consequences.

Fortunately for Marttila and her fellow passengers, the avalanche halted against a nearby river next to the train tracks, preventing a disaster. They were able to continue their journey safely to their destination, reflecting on how much worse it could have been, especially given that just the day before, another train had derailed in Switzerland due to a similar avalanche incident.
