The Latvian bobsleigh duo led by pilot Jēkabs Kalenda dropped to a tie for seventh place ahead of the final run of the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina.
The Latvian bobsleigh team, comprising pilot Jēkabs Kalenda and brakeman Matīss Miknis, has slipped to a tie for seventh place as they approach the final race in the Olympic events taking place in Milan and Cortina. The fourth heat is scheduled to begin at 22:05. In the third race, the team made a mistake in the lower part of the track, resulting in a time that barely placed them within the top ten. The Latvian crew was overtaken by Swiss competitor Michael Fogt and Italian Patrik Baumgartner, who are now neck-and-neck with them in the rankings.
Currently, the Latvian pair trails the leaders, German duo Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer, by 2.28 seconds. Throughout all three runs, the fastest times have been achieved by Lochner and Fleischhauer, who have consistently outperformed their competitors. In addition to the German team’s dominance, the second and third positions are also occupied by German sleds, with Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schiller only 0.02 seconds behind the leaders, and Adam Amur with his brakeman Alexander Schaller 1.38 seconds off the pace set by Lochner’s crew. During the event, Kalenda's team recorded the ninth-best time in their first run and improved to fourth in their second attempt, climbing three positions in the process. This performance comparison highlights their fluctuating results leading up to what will be a crucial final race for Olympic standings in this prestigious competition.
