Social Tourism: Changes in This Year's Program
This year's social tourism program in Greece will start earlier than usual, aiming to boost domestic tourism and support vulnerable groups.
The social tourism program by DYPA for 2026-2027 in Greece is set to commence earlier than in previous years, starting on May 1 instead of June 1. This shift is designed to alleviate congestion in accommodations during peak months of July and August, allowing beneficiaries to take advantage of off-peak holiday periods such as Easter at more affordable rates. With a budget of 50 million euros, the program will offer 300,000 vouchers to eligible participants.
In addition to the earlier start date, the program will introduce modifications to the benefits, the scoring system for prioritizing applicants, and the eligibility criteria. Notably, the changes will provide priority to large families, aiming to support those with more dependents more effectively. The program's alterations reflect an ongoing commitment by the Greek government to enhance domestic tourism and provide greater assistance to vulnerable groups during challenging economic times.
These developments indicate a strategic move to not only foster tourism within the country but also to ensure that resources are allocated effectively to those who need it most. By encouraging travel during the shoulder seasons, the program seeks to stimulate local economies while making holiday experiences more accessible for families and individuals alike.
