LSDP representative: Gintautas Paluckas is free to make decisions about his fate in the party and parliament

A representative of the LSDP stated that Gintautas Paluckas can make his own decisions regarding his status in the party and the parliament, as he currently faces no accusations or suspicions.

The representative of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) clarified that Gintautas Paluckas retains the right to make decisions concerning his position within the party and the Seimas. Citing the party's statute, particularly Article 15, it was pointed out that a member should temporarily suspend their membership if required by law or until any accusations are substantiated. As of now, Paluckas has not faced any charges or suspicions that would necessitate such action.

The LSDP's statement comes in response to calls from former party chairman Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis, who suggested that Paluckas, identified as a special witness in a legal investigation, should consider stepping back from his role in the Seimas until his situation is resolved and public trust in him is restored. The current Prime Minister, Inga Ruginienė, echoed this sentiment, asserting that the decision about his future within the party and parliament rests entirely with Paluckas himself, underlining the expectation for him to take responsibility in light of ongoing scrutiny.

This situation highlights the balance political figures must maintain between their party affiliations and legal obligations. The LSDP's support for Paluckas reflects an intention to give him autonomy in navigating these challenges while the party remains committed to oversight during the investigation process. The outcome of this scenario could influence not only Paluckas’s political future but also the public perception of the LSDP’s leadership and integrity.
