G. Paluckas Responds to Calls to Halt Membership in LSDP
G. Paluckas, a former Prime Minister of Lithuania, has responded to calls for him to suspend his membership in the LSDP amidst ongoing legal inquiries.
G. Paluckas, the former Prime Minister of Lithuania, addressed reporters on Tuesday regarding the recent calls for him to halt his membership in the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP). He stated he would evaluate these suggestions but did not currently see a need to suspend his membership. This comes at a time when he is also involved in a pre-trial investigation concerning allegations of abuse of power and illegal enrichment.
Earlier on the same day, Paluckas indicated he had cooperated fully with the ongoing investigation, claiming to have answered all questions posed to him during a roughly two-hour questioning session. He expressed readiness to meet again with officials from the Special Investigation Service (STT) if necessary, reinforcing his stance on the importance of transparency and adherence to legal procedures.
In his comments, Paluckas also highlighted that he had not been queried regarding another party member, Saulius Skvernelis, who was also questioned by the STT that day. His declarations reflect a broader context of scrutiny faced by Lithuanian political figures, raising questions about ethical governance and accountability within the government, particularly in light of the ongoing investigations.
