COE of Guayaquil: No active fire at Multicomercio, but entry is still prohibited due to high structural risk

The COE of Guayaquil has decided to maintain a total entry ban on the Multicomercio building due to high structural risks after the firefighting operations concluded.

Following the completion of firefighting operations at the Multicomercio site, the COE of Guayaquil has determined that entry into the building will remain prohibited due to significant structural risks. This decision aims to ensure the safety of individuals, as a comprehensive technical report is still awaited to assess the stability and condition of the structure. Until such a report is generated, the prohibition will remain in effect.

Additionally, the COE has resolved to forward all videos and reports concerning unauthorized entries at the Multicomercio building to the State Prosecutor's Office. This move highlights the serious concerns regarding legality and safety surrounding the premises. The COE intends to involve the Prosecutor's Office in future discussions following the issuance of the technical report, reflecting the potential for legal actions concerning the building.

The meeting involved key stakeholders including representatives from the Guayaquil Fire Department, National Police, municipal departments, and the National Risk Management Secretariat, underscoring a collaborative approach to handle the situation responsibly. Measures are also being considered to reinforce physical barriers around the area to prevent theft and unauthorized access, further demonstrating the urgency of ensuring public safety and adherence to legal protocols during this critical scenario.
