V. P. Andriukaitis' Strict Words to G. Paluckas: Urges Him to Resign from the Parliamentary Mandate

Former Prime Minister V. P. Andriukaitis has advised G. Paluckas to resign from his parliamentary mandate and face legal disputes transparently following an investigation into abuse and illegal enrichment.

Former Prime Minister V. P. Andriukaitis publicly urged current member G. Paluckas to step down from his parliamentary mandate and confront legal issues directly. He emphasized the importance of proving the validity of one’s actions in a completely transparent manner during an interview with Žinių radijas, suggesting that facing legal authorities head-on is the best course of action. Andriukaitis highlighted his own previous experience, where he voluntarily resigned from the parliament and cooperated fully with the prosecution to resolve legal matters.

Paluckas is currently under scrutiny as he has recently been questioned again by the Special Investigation Service (STT) in connection with a pre-trial inquiry into suspected abuse of power and illegal enrichment. After a lengthy two-hour interrogation, Paluckas expressed feeling calm and reassured the public that he has no intention of resigning from the Social Democratic Party (LSDP), as he has not been formally accused or charged with any wrongdoing. However, he later returned to the STT for further discussions, implying that there are still details he wishes to clarify with investigators.

Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė also weighed in on the conversation, suggesting that the former prime minister should reconsider his political position amid the ongoing investigations. This situation presents significant implications for Paluckas' political future and may influence the broader political landscape in Lithuania, particularly concerning the trust and integrity of elected officials in the face of legal challenges.
