The Jesus Baptism Museum is Being Established. A New Destination for Pilgrims from Around the World
An international competition has been concluded for the design of the Jesus Baptism Museum near the archaeological site of Al-Maghtas in Jordan.
An international design competition has identified a winning proposal for the Jesus Baptism Museum, to be built near Al-Maghtas, a site linked to the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist in the Jordan River. The architects from London's NÃall McLaughlin Architects won this prestigious competition, which highlights the significance of the site as a religious and historical landmark.
The location, approximately ten kilometers north of the Dead Sea on the eastern banks of the Jordan River, is believed to be where John the Baptist baptized Jesus of Nazareth. Al-Maghtas has a long history as a pilgrimage site and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015, showcasing its cultural and religious importance.
The new Jesus Baptism Museum will complement ongoing efforts to develop a 140-hectare complex that includes a hotel and a religious center designed for pilgrims and tourists, attracting an expected 400,000 visitors annually from around the globe. This initiative not only emphasizes the historical relevance of the site but also aims to boost local tourism and promote international religious pilgrimage.
