Dismantled the Traffic of Visas from Bangladesh: Four Convictions

An Italian court has convicted four individuals in a scam involving fake work and study permits linked to immigration from Bangladesh.

The illicit trade of visas from Bangladesh has been uncovered following a whistleblower report from Italian parliament member Andrea Di Giuseppe, who has been vocal against illegal immigration disguised as study permits. His efforts, coalescing with the actions of law enforcement, resulted in significant legal consequences for those involved in this scheme.

The Rome Tribunal confirmed convictions of two executives from the Italian Foreign Ministry and two Bangladeshi entrepreneurs. The sentences included prison terms of 4 years and 8 months for Nazrul Islam and 4 years and 2 months for Shamim Kazi, along with hefty fines totaling 630,000 euros and the confiscation of assets. They were found guilty of attempting to bribe Di Giuseppe with 2 million euros to overlook their illegal activities, which involved selling fraudulent tourist and work visas priced between 7,000 to 15,000 euros.

This case highlights the serious issue of illegal immigration facilitated by corrupt practices within official channels. The sentencing sends a strong message against the exploitation of immigration laws, indicating that authorities are taking steps to combat such networks that undermine the integrity of the immigration system and lead to the illicit entry of individuals into the country.
