Cloned luxury car seized on MGC-122 in Espinosa
The Military Police in Brazil seized a cloned luxury car valued at R$ 300,000 during a traffic operation in Espinosa.
On Monday, the Military Police Rodoviaria conducted a traffic operation named 'Trânsito Seguro' on the MGC-135 highway in Espinosa, where they seized a luxury vehicle suspected to be cloned. The incident occurred at kilometer 10 of the highway, where officers noticed discrepancies in the vehicle's registration documents; the certificate presented by the driver belonged to a different model altogether. This raised immediate suspicions among the police officers, prompting further investigation.
Subsequent checks revealed signs of tampering on the car's chassis, leading the police to contact the original vehicle's owner. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the original owner had the vehicle in their possession, purchased from a dealership in Teresina, Piauí. This further solidified suspicions of the vehicle's illegitimacy, reinforcing the police’s actions during the seizure.
The driver of the luxury car claimed he bought it in São Paulo for R$ 80,000, only being made aware that the vehicle had a financial lien. According to police estimates, the actual value of the cloned vehicle is around R$ 300,000, which raises significant implications surrounding the safety and legalities of car transactions in Brazil. The failure to properly verify vehicle documentation, especially in the high-value luxury car market, highlights ongoing challenges in law enforcement regarding vehicle fraud.
